As I have always said, the purpose of this blog was simply to store all the information I get by reading various sites and blogs on the net, so that I can access it from 1 point. The database has grown over months. This time I did a search on laptop batteries ,their functioning, lifespan etc so that I could make better use of my laptop and perhaps, save some money!

These tips have been useful for me and for many others. I would like to get a feedback from you about this post. If anyone has better ideas and more tips please let me know in the comments section.

Optimize the power management

The power management system conserves battery power by setting the processor to run at a slower speed, dimming the screen, spinning down the hard drive when it’s not in use and causing the machine to go into sleep mode when inactive. Your notebook user’s guide will provide information relating to specific power management features. But if you are a person who doesn’t like going for less performance, you can always buy a new battery!

Keep Your Batteries Clean –
It’s a good idea to clean dirty battery contacts with a cotton swab and alcohol. This helps maintain a good connection between the battery and your portable device.

Charge full and Use full

I got this information from my uncle. Every laptop battery has 2000 cycles of charging and discharging. So once you charge a battery, remember to charge it full and use it full before plugging it again to recharge it. This would help you especially if you are a person who uses laptop throughout the day and frequently switches it on and off. Don’t charge the battery unless it is below 30% charge.

New Batteries –
New laptop batteries come in a discharged condition and must be fully charged before use. It is recommended that you fully charge and discharge your new battery two to four times to allow it to reach its maximum rated capacity.

These tips also apply in the case of camcoder batteries.
